Medical Records is celebrating it’s 5 year anniversary as well as 50^th release!

Medical Records was founded sometime in 2007/2008 but released it’s first double header of reissues in May 2010 with the (at the time) little known Deutsche Wertarbeit (MR-001) and the first album by famed Italo/synthpop guru Alexander Robotnick (MR-002).  Since the beginning, Medical has pledged to bring back long out of print and lost new wave, synth, and disco LPs from the 70s and 80s.
With an emphasis on high quality heavy vinyl (with a dizzying array of colored wax), these essential records have been made available again at a reasonable price for collectors and new fans to cherish once again. Over time, we expanded our palette to include new artists with a similar aesthetic to our vision as well as crucial 90s reissues in the shoegaze and other unclassifiable genres.

With collaborations with Crispy Nuggets, Light In The Attic, and Portland’s 2010 Records, the back catalog of releases have spanned much ground.  For this 50^th release (MR-050), we have chosen to release our first retrospective with a twist.  This double LP features a hand-picked selection of tracks intended to highlight our past reissues on the first 3 sides.  Featuring such standouts as Lou Champagne System, Tony Carey, Gay Cat Park, and many more, it is a very nice representative collection.

The 4^th side of the double LP is a unique collection of our new (contemporary) artists performing specially selected cover versions of tracks featured on our past reissues.  Examples include the sultry “We R” performed by Roladex (originally by Chrisma on “Hibernation”) and “Click” performed by Kline Coma Xero (originally by Disco Volante).  This collection will surely be a treat for the fans who have been following our evolution over time and will especially prove to be a staple in anyone’s collection who would like some of our reissued hits on one concise compilation.  All reissue tracks and new tracks have received additional remastering and mastering (the new tracks) by Martin Bowes at the Cage Studios, UK.

This collection will appeal to aforementioned lovers/collectors of rare new wave, private press synth, cosmic/italo disco, vinyl djs, and many more! This double LP is housed in a specially designed gatefold heavy sleeve featuring the Medical logo in a “color blindness test” on the front with the gatefold filled with thumbnails of all 50 past releases.

The Seattle label will celebrate their fifth anniversary with a double LP compilation.

Take a glance back through the discography of Medical Records and you will find a label dedicated to shining a light on out of print and lost gems from the ’70s and ’80s eras of new wave, disco and synth. Severed Heads, Alexander Robotnik, Guyer’s Connection and Gay Cat Park are amongst the bands subject to the deluxe reissue treatment by Medical in the past five years. As the Seattle label has grown, their remit has expanded to work with contemporary bands that share Medical’s musical vision and they’ve also collaborated on releases with fellow Emerald City operation Light In The Attic.

The stars have aligned for Medical Records with Synesthesia – The First Five Years, the 50th release in their fifth year that’s a celebration of all that has come before. Due to arrive next month, the double LP compilation highlights Medical’s archival endeavours since 2010 with a hand-picked selection of bands and artists who’ve been given the reissue treatment. As a neat twist, Medical have also enlisted a selection of contemporary artists to compose cover versions of tracks featured on the label’s reissues to date. One of those, a synth heavy cover of Chrisma’s angular 1979 Italian wave number “We R” from local Seattle act Roladex, can be heard below.

Doppio appuntamento all’ARCI Lo Fi con i KRISMA l’occasione la fornisce l’uscita di un libro CD Tributo alla band milanese. Chybernation (pubblicato da NdA Press – www.ndanet.it ) racconta, con una lunga intervista alla band moltissime immagini ed attraverso 15 tracce risuonate da giovani artisti, il percorso artistico, spesso innovativo e provocatorio, di Maurizio Arcieri e Christina Moser.
C’è anche altro: ben due tracce inedite dei KRISMA.

La serata si aprirà con la presentazione del progetto Chybernation, curato da Luciano Joyello Triolo che per l’occasione ha realizzato una lunga intervista con la band. Ad illustrare il progetto ed a raccontare la storia del gruppo ci penserà il giornalista Luca Frazzi (che del libro ha scritto la prefazione).
E poi il palco sarà tutto per loro, con la loro musica, vera protagonista della serata
On stage saliranno Maurizio e Christina per un concerto che dimostrerà quale ancora oggi sia l’attualità e la vitalità di questi artisti che mai sono stati dimenticati dal pubblico. Sarà un’occasione per riascoltare i loro successi ed anche scoprire le nuove proposte del duo.

Krisma
La formazione dei Krisma (già Chrisma), nasce nel 1976 per volere di Maurizio Arcieri, ex componente dei NEW DADA e autore di alcuni successi pop come solista. L’esordio del duo si concretizza con due 45 giri (“Amore” e “U”) che sanciscono l’inizio della collaborazione con Niko Papathanassiou (fratello di Vangelis), che porterà alla realizzazione dell’album Chinese Restaurant registrato, nel 1977 a Londra, nella nascente atmosfera punk di quegli anni. A quel disco ne seguirà un altro, realizzato con lo stesso team (Hibernation) dopo il quale il gruppo cambierà la ragione sociale in Krisma, virando verso un’elettronica ricercata e innovativa, che arriva in piena forma artistica fino ai giorni nostri

L’ANTHOLOGIA NEW WAVE "PUNK E POST PUNK, 1977 – 1980". Gli anni che rivoluzionarono il Rock italiano. 

Il secondo volume de "L'ANTHOLOGIA", la nuova collana che indaga sull' espressione dei vari generi musicali in Italia. Cramps Music, ideatrice del progetto, dedica il secondo capitolo alla New Wave, realizzando la prima raccolta musicale riguardante il movimento in Italia nel periodo compreso tra il 1977 e il 1980. La selezione musicale e i testi sono stati curati da Federico Guglielmi.
